Industrial Solutions - Simply Functional

 3 Lessons Learned at Tradeshows

When I really believe in something, I have a tendency to get really excited about getting others to believe what I do.  However, it takes more than just enthusiasm and excitement to get others to see what I see in Telamon Industrial Solutions.

The Industrial Solutions division of Telamon Corporation provides top quality assembly and kitting services to manufacturing companies on time with competitive pricing. Sounds simple, right?  The answer is not a simple ‘yes’ or ‘no’ as I learned during this year’s trade show season.

Lesson #1: Being Specific

Just because we can assemble just about anything does not mean that is the best way to approach a potential customer.  They want to know exactly what we can do to benefit them AND what we specifically make that relates to them. Taking the time to determine what a customer specifically needs is well worth the time and effort!

Lesson #2: Don’t Try to Be a Jack of All Trades

That cliché continues to say, “…and a master of none,” and that is not a good thing!  No one wants to deal with a company who is “good” at everything.  They want to deal with companies that are “the best” at what they do.  Telamon Industrial Solutions can say we are the best at assembly because we have the statistics to prove it: 14 Parts Per Million & 99.5% On Time Delivery!

Lesson #3: Curb Your Enthusiasm

If you are too enthusiastic you will overwhelm your potential customer and they will not be able to determine what you are really offering them.  I learned this meeting with Honda at a “Speed Dating” event in Indiana.  Given the short time, I just dove in and went full speed…and was quickly told to “Slow down!”  Passion is a good thing, but in small quantities.  Too much enthusiasm can be misconstrued as a way of making up for substance.

Bonus: Advice to Others

If you are going to give away a promotional item, make sure that they work!  If you are an alternative energy company giving away LED flashlights that don’t work or a printing company giving away calendars that are missing days, it doesn’t say much for your business…especially if “Quality” is part of the name of the company.
